The CVWC Guide to Health-Conscious Eating in the Conejo Valley
Written by: Juliet Tabbara

Nourishing food.
Stronger communities.
What if eating well and dining out didn’t have to feel like two different things?
Across the Conejo Valley, local restaurants and eateries are making it easier to enjoy the experience of dining out and great food while still being intentional about what goes on your plate.
From scratch kitchens and seasonal ingredients to plant-forward menus, gluten-free choices, quality cooking oils and more conscious sourcing, there are plenty of local places showing that health-conscious eating can still be delicious, satisfying and something to look forward to.
For our first CVWC Local Wellness Guide, we’re highlighting some of the restaurants and eateries helping make that possible—while also celebrating the local people and businesses behind them.
Because to us, wellness isn’t only about what nourishes the individual. It’s also about what helps our local community thrive.
What Does “Health-Conscious” Mean to CVWC?
There isn’t one definition of healthy eating—and we don’t believe there should be.
Different bodies have different needs, preferences and priorities. Rather than looking for restaurants that follow one particular diet or fit a narrow definition of “healthy,” we looked for local establishments demonstrating several qualities we value.
What We Considered
Fresh, quality ingredients
Whole-food and minimally processed choices, with an emphasis on ingredient quality
Organic + locally sourced ingredients
Restaurants incorporating organic, seasonal or locally sourced ingredients when possible
Plant-forward choices
Plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, not simply one token menu item
Gluten-free options + dietary inclusivity
Restaurants making it easier for people with different dietary preferences and needs to enjoy dining out
Scratch-made preparation
Food, sauces and other components prepared in-house rather than relying heavily on highly processed ingredients
Ingredient-conscious cooking
Attention to cooking oils, added sugars, preservatives, fillers and other ingredients health-conscious diners may consider
Seasonal + responsible sourcing
Seasonal menus, farmers-market produce, sustainably sourced ingredients and other practices that connect food more closely to where it comes from
Local + independent ownership
We also gave special consideration to locally and independently owned establishments and businesses with a meaningful connection to the Conejo Valley
Restaurants did not need to meet every criterion to be included
This isn’t a ranking, nor does inclusion mean every item on a restaurant’s menu meets these criteria. Instead, this is a curated collection of local places doing something noteworthy when it comes to ingredients, preparation, sourcing, dietary options or a more conscious approach to food.
There isn’t one definition of healthy eating—and we don’t believe there should be.

WHY SUPPORTING LOCAL MATTERS
Health-conscious eating isn't only about what's on the plate.
Behind many of these restaurants are local founders, families and independent small-business owners choosing to do things differently—from sourcing better ingredients and preparing food from scratch to creating more options for people with different dietary needs.
When we choose to support them, we're doing more than enjoying a great meal.
We're helping local businesses grow, encouraging more health-conscious options in our community and contributing to a stronger local food ecosystem.
At CV Wellness Community, we believe individual well-being and community well-being are interconnected.
Supporting local is one small way we can nourish both.
A NOTE BEFORE YOU DINE
Menus, ingredients, sourcing practices and dietary accommodations can change over time. Information included in this guide reflects what was shared with CVWC or publicly available at the time of publication.
If you have celiac disease, a food allergy or another medical dietary requirement, always contact the restaurant directly to confirm current ingredients and preparation practices before ordering.
And remember: health-conscious doesn't mean the same thing for everyone.
This guide isn't intended to tell you what you should or shouldn't eat. It's here to make it easier to discover local establishments offering more choices—and to celebrate the businesses helping make those choices possible.
At CV Wellness Community, we believe individual well-being and community well-being are interconnected.
